Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) members have arrested the prime accused in a case filed over the attack on houses of some local Hindus at Noagaon village in Shalla upazila of Sunamganj.
Shahidul Islam alias Swadhin Member, local ward Jubo League president and union parishad member, was arrested from Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar around 1:30am on Saturday.
Earlier, two separate cases have been filed by the police and villagers where 50 identified persons and 1,500 unidentified persons were made accused.
Following the case filling, police detained 22 people in various drives on Thursday midnight.
At least 35 houses belong to the people of the Hindu community in Naogaon were damaged while 40 more houses vandalised partially in an attack on the houses of minority community on March 17 allegedly after a Hindu youth criticised Hefajat Joint Secretary General Maulana Mamunul Haque on social media.
