Bangladesh logs highest daily Covid cases of 13,768

Bangladesh logged the highest daily Covid cases of 13,768 in 24 hours until 8:00am Monday.

A total of 220 more people died of the viral disease in the timeline that is the second highest for a day in the country since March 18, 2020, the day the country witnessed the first ever Covid death.

With this, the total death toll hits 16,639 and cases hit 10,34,957.

Among the deceased, 142 are male and 78female patients.

Among them, 167 died in public hospitals, 40 in private hospitals, and 13 died at their homes.

The daily test positivity rate is 31.24 per cent.

A Directorate General of Health Services release confirmed the statistics.

Among the divisions, Dhaka logged the highest Covid death of 64 people in the timeline while Khulna logged the second highest death of 55 people.

A total of 37 people died in Chattogram, 23 in Rajshahi, four in Barishal, six in Sylhet, 18 in Rangpur and 13 died in Mymensingh divisions.

Among them, 121 aged 60 years and above, 46 from 51 to 60, 26 from 41 to 50, 17 from 31 to 40 nine from 21 to 30 and one deceased aged from 11 to 20 years age range.

A total of 44,067 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 613 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 70,15,234 samples as of July 12.

A total of 7,020 people recovered from the disease during the timeline totalling the recovery to 881,521.

Besides death of Covid patients, our correspondents from different districts of the country said that a good number of patients died with Covid symptoms at the Covid units in hospitals there.

Reports received from Rajshahi, Khulna, Kushtia, Barishal, Jashore, Chuadanga, Chattogram, Satkhira and Mymensingh said that a total of 122 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in the district in 24 hours till Monday morning.

Of the deceased, 63 were Covid positive patients, 55 had symptoms and four others had post-Covid complications.
