Covid-19 cases surge past 14 lakh in Bangladesh

Covid cases in Bangladesh crossed 14 lakh mark in 24 hours until Friday morning.

The country recorded an additional Covid death of 197 more people and 8,465 infections in 24 hours until Friday morning.

With the latest statistics, the total death toll hits 23,810 and infections to 14,05,333 since it had recorded the first Covid infection on March 8, 2020, and death from the viral disease on March 18, 2020.

The daily test positivity rate is 20.83 per cent.

Among the deceased, 108 are male and 89 female are patients.

The Directorate General of Health Services came up with the latest statistics on its daily Covid press release.

A total of 40,641 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 707 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 83,42,190 samples as of August 13.

In the past 24 hours, 11,457 patients recovered from the viral disease totaling the recovery to 12,73,522.

In case of the divisions, Dhaka logged the highest death toll of 78 and Chattogram logged 53 deaths.

Reports received from Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Kushtia, Barishal, Chattogram, Satkhira and Khulna said that a total of 57 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in the districts in 24 hours till Friday morning.

Among them, 29 were Covid patients, 27 had symptoms and the remaining one had post-Covid complications.
