Madaripur crash: Accident due to reckless driving

Police said that the cause of the bus accident on the Dhaka-Bhanga expressway at Shibchar in Madaripur was due to excessive speed of the vehicle.

Madaripur Superintendent of Police (SP) Masud Alam on Sunday evening said: “Due to reckless driving, the bus fell off the expressway.”

The SP said that fire service and police are working at the spot to remove the bus. Action will be taken after investigation in this regard.

A passenger of that bus, a young man from Kashiani in Gopalganj, Ujjal said: “The bus was moving fast from the beginning. Many of the passengers slept soundly on the expressway or were taking rest.”

“I did not feel anything during the accident. When I regained consciousness, I saw blood and corpses around. When I sat up, my head spun and I fell. After feeling a little better, I began to understand my surroundings,” he added.

Meanwhile, Additional IG of Highway Police Sahabuddin Khan, DIG of Highway Police Habiba Binte Salma, Dhaka Range DIG Syed Nurul Islam and local district administration officials visited the spot.

The bus of Imad Paribahan leaving from Khulna at around 7:30am on Sunday lost control and fell down the expressway in Qutubpur area of Shibchar.
