4 defence MoUs signed with India, alleges BNP

Dhaka, May 13 (Just News): BNP on Sunday alleged that the government has signed four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on defence with India ignoring public opinion.

Speaking at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office, BNP senior joint secretary general also demanded the government make public the defence pacts signed with the neighbouring country.

"The government has abruptly signed the defence-cooperation deals with India ignoring public opinion. Different quarters are now raising questions that whether the pacts will put Bangladesh's sovereignty at stake," Rizvi said.

He further said, "We can't allow Bangladesh's defence system to be the extension of another country. Disclose the secret deals signed with India before people."

Mentioning that India is the nearest neighbour of Bangladesh having borders on three sides, the BNP leader said signing of such a deal with that country will only put the country's sovereignty in danger.

"The entire nation has got worried and disappointed as the government signed such anti-state deals keeping people in the dark. People think the government has signed such secret pacts only to ensure its return to power again," he added.

Rizvi also voiced concern as their chairperson Khaleda Zia's relatives are not allowed to meet her in jail.

"We've come to know that our leader's (Khaleda's) health condition is deteriorating gradually. We think the government is not allowing her family members to meet her as part of a conspiracy," headed.
