The Women and Children Oppression Control Tribunal-3 in Khulna on Wednesday sentenced a man to life term rigorous imprisonment on charge of raping a female student of Khulna University alluring to marry her.
The court also fined the convict Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer one more year in jail.
Judge Abdus Salam Khan of the court handed down the verdict in presence of the convict Rafi Islam, 30, son of Md Zahirul Islam, a resident of Mirpur in Dhaka, after examining five witnesses, Public Prosecutor of the court advocate Farid Ahmed said.
According to prosecution, the convicted criminal Rafi Islam raped several times of a female student of KU alluring to marry her.
On June 26, 2022, the convict raped her last time in a hotel of Khulna city and left the place after torturing her as the victim threatened him that she would take legal action if he refused to marry her.
The victim filed a case with Women and Child Oppression Control Tribunal-3, against Rafi on January 8 in 2023.
On January 11, 2023, the court asked the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonadanga Police Station to investigate the FIR and to press charge sheet as early as possible.
Sub-inspector Md Sohel Rana of Sonadanga Police Station pressed charge sheet against Rafi to the court on February 23, 2023.
