Five members of a family were electrocuted to death at Juri upazila in Moulvibazar.
The accident took place on Tuesday morning at village East Goalbari village of Juri upazila when an electric wire snapped on a house.
The deceased are Faizur Rahman, 52, his wife Shiri Begum, 45, daughters Samia, 16, and Sabina, 13, and son Sayem, 8.
The couple’s another child, Sonia Akter, 12, was injured in this incident. She was undergoing treatment at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Juri Upazila chairman Bir Muktijoddha MA Moeed Farooq, Upazila executive officer Lusikant Hajong, Juri Police Station officer-in-charge SM Main Uddin, Upazila vice-chairman Ringkur Ranjan Das immediately visited the spot after receiving information about the incident.
Juri police station officer-in-charge SM Mainuddin confirmed the incident.
Juri upazila nirbahi officer Lusikant Hajong said, ‘The accident took place at about 5:50am. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their relatives after due legal process.
The district administration would bear the entire medical expenses of the injured child, he added.
