Different garment workers’ rights bodies on Friday at separate protest rallies in Dhaka called on the government and garment factory owners to pay wages and festival allowances to the workers before Ramadan 20.

Bangladesh Garment Sramik Samhati, Garments Sramik Front and Sramik Karmachari Federation held separate protest rallies in front of the National Press Club to press home their demands.

Garment Sramik Samhati president Taslima Akhter who chaired the rally said that in many factories the workers so far did not get wages and Eid festival allowances.

She said that the workers would not be able to enjoy the festival if they did not get wages and full festival allowances equal to the basic of one month wage.

Moreover, in many factories in Gazipur and Ashulia owners are sacking the workers, before the Eid, Taslima alleged.

General secretary of the organisation Babul Hossain, central leaders Anjan Das, Ziadul Islam, Probir Saha and others spoke at the rally.

The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded different city roads.
