Govt working against treaty, says Santu Larma

Dhaka, Nov 29 (Just News): Parbatya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS) today alleged the government has been working against the Chattogram Hill Tracts Peace Accord.

“The treaty remains unimplemented after 21 years,” Santu Larma, president of PCJSS, said. “The government has been working against the treaty.”

“So, the problems in hills have not been solved,” Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma, popularly known as Santu Larma, said at press conference at a hotel in Dhaka.

About the upcoming election, he said when the 11th national election is knocking the door, repression and oppression is underway on Jummu people.

“Such condition is not suitable for free, fair, acceptable and participatory election,” Santu said, alleging that drives against the activists of their organisation intensified after the polls schedule was declared for the benefit of ruling party candidates.

PCJSS organised the briefing marking the 21st anniversary of the treaty signing on December 2, 1997, which ended the two-decade long insurgency and bloodletting.

Santu alleged, although the Awami League government came to power in 2009 but it did not take any “visible steps” to implement the unimplemented issues of the treaty.

Dhaka University's Prof Mesbah Kamal and Oikya Nap President Pankaj Bhattacharya also spoke at the press conference.
