BNP rejects polls result, calls for re-election

Dhaka, Dec 31 (Just News): Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said the party rejects the results of Sunday’s election and calls for a fresh election under a caretaker government.

He said the government conducted the election in an unprecedented manner using state-machinery in a planned way.

He called for holding the election again under a neutral government.

He also said the BNP activists and sympathisers are coming under attacks across the country after Sunday’s general election.

He alleged that houses of their leaders and activists are vandalised and torched.

The briefing was held after an emergency meeting of the party’s top policy making body, national standing committee, to chalk out their next strategies after the election debacle.

Bangladesh held 11th parliamentary elections on Sunday in which Jatiya Oikya Front and BNP-led alliance got seven seats and the Awami League-led alliance got 288 seats.
