Man jailed 7yrs for ‘distorting’ Hasina, others photo

A man in Bangladesh has been handed seven years in prison for “distorting” photographs of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh.

The convict is M Monir Hosain of Nagarpur upazila, Tangail. He was sued by police under the Information and Communication Technology Act.

Judge of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Ash-Shams Jaglul Hussein passed the order in presence of the three accused after witnessing 14 witnesses and documents.

The court fined Monir Tk 10,000 and acquitted two other accused--Alamgir and Subrato – as the allegations brought against them could not be proved.

Police had sued him and three others in Manikganj, back in 2013. They were charged for “distorting” photos of late president Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ex-Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

In 2014, police pressed charge sheet against the four. Provab Chandra was exempted from the case while framing charges.
