Rifat murder: Police issue red alert

Police issued red alert at all international airports, river ports and land ports across Bangladesh to prevent the killers of Barguna youth Rifat Sharif from fleeing the country.

Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general (media) of Police Headquarters, told UNB on Friday that the alert was issued on Thursday morning.

He said various police units including the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), counter-terrorism unit are working together alongside the Barguna district police to catch the killers.

“Three suspected killers have already arrested and we hope that other suspects will be caught soon,” the AIG added.

Rifat, 22, was hacked to death by criminals in front of his wife in broad daylight in Barguna district town on Wednesday. The incident was caught on surveillance camera.

A day later, three suspects were arrested in connection with the killing.

Meanwhile, police detained four suspects from a launch terminal in Barishal. But they were released several hours later on Friday morning as their faces did not match the ones seen in the CCTV footage.
