Longer banking hours ahead of Eid in Dhaka

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has directed all commercial banks to keep branches near cattle markets in Dhaka open between Aug 9 and Aug 11, which falls on the weekend and the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.

Banks were also told to conduct the transaction at those branches from 10am to 8pm during this period, says a BB circular issued on Wednesday (Aug 7).

The circular sent to all bank chiefs, directed to ensure security at all the branches during the Eid holidays.

A large number of traders gather at the cattle markets run by Dhaka South and North city corporations on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. Huge transaction of cash money takes place. So, security to financial transaction is very important at the cattle markets, it reads.

The central banks also asked to pay the banks officials and employees for their duty during the holidays, adds the circular.
