BNP calls Nat’l Executive Committee meeting 3 Feb

Dhaka, Jan 28 (Just News): Main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has convened a crucial meeting of its National Executive Committee for 3 February.

BNP chairperson’s media wing member source told that the party’s National Standing Committee in its meeting on Saturday decided to convene the meeting.

The meeting of the party’s 502-strong body is going to be held at a time when a makeshift court has fixed 8 February to pronounce its verdict on a graft case against BNP chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

The party, however, has not disclosed its plan where it will hold the first ever meeting of the current committee formed in 2016. It will be the second time the BNP holds such meeting after its rival Bangladesh Awami League (AL) came to power in a military controlled election in 2008.

Political analysts and politically conscious people have kept eyes on the verdict as it is widely believed that Khaleda Zia might be convicted in the case ostensibly to “keep her away from the next general elections” to be held in the yearend.

Country’s political arena has heated up once again with the country’s two major political parties - BNP and AL - are now at loggerheads centring on the verdict.
