The United Nations team in Bangladesh is maintaining a close watch on the case of Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, emphasized the UN's unwavering support for Professor Yunus during a regular briefing in New York on Wednesday, addressing concerns about the ongoing harassment against Dr. Yunus.

Dujarric expressed that Professor Yunus has been a longstanding friend of the United Nations, and his contributions have been instrumental to the organization's development efforts.

Responding to a question about the UN's stance on the thousands of opposition party members arrested before the January 7 national elections, he underscored the UN's consistent call for the release of all individuals detained for peacefully expressing themselves.
