The United Nations is following the India-Pakistan situation with deep concern, said Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary-General, on Wednesday.

The Spokesman said this at noon briefing at UN headquarter on Wednesday.

“The United Nations message, both publicly and privately, to both sides is to urgently take steps to lower tensions through meaningful, mutual engagement and meet their responsibilities to maintain peace and security in the region,” said Dujarric.

At briefing a journalist asked, “We've seen another escalation today between India and Pakistan. Has the Secretary‑General spoken with the leaders of those countries?”

In reply the Spokesman said, “He received a call yesterday from the Foreign Minister of Pakistan. There've been contacts at various levels with all sides. He's, obviously, following the situation as we see it even today with deep concern, and his… the United Nations' message, both publicly and privately, to both sides is to urgently take steps to lower tensions through meaningful, mutual engagement and meet their responsibilities to maintain peace and security in the region.”
