Rangamati, May 5 (Just News): The law enforcers are conducting drive to arrest criminals behind the murder of Naniarchar upazila Chairman Shaktiman Chakma and Friday's gun attack that killed five people.
Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge of Naniarchar Police Station, said that security has been beefed up in the upazila. Additional police and army members have been deployed in different places.
Besides, the process of case filing is underway, said the OC.
Meanwhile, the two incidents have created panic among local people. Besides, vehicular movement remained suspended on Rangmati-Khagrachhari road which is the only route to go Malahchhari in Khagrachhari from Naniarchar.
Five people were killed and eight others injured in a gun attack on a motorcade of the followers of slain Naniarcharupazilaparishad chairman Shaktiman Chakma at Betchhari in the upazila on Friday.
They came under the attack while going to attend the funeral programme of the slain upazilaparishad chairman at his Kukurmara family crematory in the upazila from Khagrachhari.
Advocate Shaktiman Chakma, 55, also a leader of ParbatyaChattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (MN Larma faction), was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in front of the upazilaparishad complex on Thursday.
