Writer Rashid Haider dies

Ekushey padak winning writer Rashid Haider passed away at 10:00am at his daughter’s house in Fuller Road on Dhaka University campus on Tuesday. He was 79.

‘My father passed away at my house at 10:00am. He had been suffering from old-age complications. His physical condition was not well in the last two days,’ writer Rashid Haider’s daughter Shaonti Haider told New Age.

His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at the central mosque on Dhaka University campus after Zuhr prayer. He will be buried at Azimpur graveyard at his wife’s grave.

Rashid Haider was born on July 15 in 1941. He received Ekushey padak in 2014 for his contribution to the country’s literary arena.

He also bagged awards like Bangla Academy Literary Award, Nedhushah Literary Prize, Humayun Qadir Prize, Agrani Bank Prize.
