Writ challenges recommendation to reappoint Taqsem as WASA MD

A writ petition was filed on Thursday challenging the legality of the recommendation made by the board of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority to reappoint Taqsem A Khan as its managing director.

Engineer Monjur Morshed filed the writ petition with the High Court.

Petitioner’s lawyer Tanvir Ahmed told reporters that the DWASA board had no authority to hold a meeting for recommending Taqsem as its managing director on September 19 without the presence of the board chairman who died on September 11.

He also said that the DWASA secretary Sarmin Haque Amir had no authority to call the board meeting regarding the appointment of the managing director as vice-chairman was not appointed after the death of the chairman.

On September 10 the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority board proposed another extension of Taqsem A Khan as its managing director of the capital’s water supply agency amid criticism over corruption allegations against him.

Taqsem was going to get the extension as his tenure would end on October 14.
