Khaleda Zia’s condition stable, says her doctor

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's physical condition is stable and she is showing no symptoms of the coronavirus.

Her medical team said they are ready to hospitalise her if the situation arises.

"Still, she is in good condition. We have full preparation. If we see any problem and think she needs to be admitted to a hospital, we will do so immediately," Dr FM Siddique, personal physician of Khaleda, told journalists today.

After examining Khaleda at her house, he said, "She has not lost her sense of smell and taste. She is quite well. She is carrying on with her normal routine."

He also said Khaleda Zia was asymptomatic.

Quoting Khaleda Zia, the doctor said, "She was saying if her staffers were not positive and she was not tested, she wouldn't have known that she's Covid-19 positive."

She urged all to follow health guidelines and to stay safe and also to pray for her quick recovery.

Saying that the second week was critical for Covid-19 infected patients, the physician said Khaleda's biochemical tests will be done every 48 hours.

Siddique said physicians from Bangladesh, UK and USA are monitoring Khaleda's condition.

"We are working as a team. We are consulting and then going for treatment," he said.

When asked how her immune system was faring, Siddique said, "It is very good. If one more week goes this way, we will overcome the danger."

Siddique said after getting the report, the medical team found her infection to be mild and started treatment.

"We are observing her situation very closely and we have discussed with the members of her medical board every day," Siddique said.

Apart from her, all domestic helpers and staffers of her residence have also been infected with Covid-19.

The personal physician of Khaleda also said the former premier is taking care of her infected staffers.
