Body of giant whale washes up on Teknaf sea-shore

Partially decomposed corpse of a giant whale floated on the shores of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar last night.

Local fishermen first noticed the 26-foot-long whale in Monkhali area around 8pm, said Md Parvej Chowdhury, UNO of Teknaf.

There were several injury marks on the body of the whale, some of the fishermen, who found it, said.

Upazila animal resources officer and forest department officials went to the spot upon information and buried the body, he added.

"The whale may have died several days ago. The cause of death can be known after autopsy," the UNO also said.

"The animal was a 26-feet long and 10-feet wide Baird's whale. It may have died in a faraway place a few days ago," said Tareq Rahman, Whykong forest range officer.
