Another consignment of over 55 lakh doses of Sinopharm vaccine arrived in Dhaka from China early today.
This consignment of 55,53,650 doses is a record for Bangladesh in receiving vaccines from China, following the recent agreement.
A Biman flight carrying the vaccines landed at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:10 am. The consignment was received by Dr Shamsul Haque, member secretary of the Vaccine Deployment Committee at the health directorate.
He said, a total of 55,53,650 doses have been received. After being transported from airport in a freezer van, vaccines were delivered to Beximco Warehouse in Gazipur. To keep the vaccines safe, special arrangements have been made there.
The vaccines will be distributed at district and upazila levels soon under the supervision of Beximco, he said.
Dr Shamsul Haque added that at 5pm tomorrow, over 10 lakh Pfizer vaccines will arrive in the country under the COVAX facility.
