Sagar-Runi murder: Probe report submission deferred for 92nd time

A Dhaka court on Monday again directed Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to submit probe report of a case filed over the sensational murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikary fixed October 31 as the new deadline.

The RAB official investigating the case failed to submit the report on Monday and sought more time.

With this, the court has rescheduled the date for the 92nd time.

The court last deferred the probe report submission for the 91st time on August 24 to Monday (September 26).

Maasranga Television news editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife, ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi, were found dead at their rented apartment in Dhaka’s West Rajabazar area on February 11, 2012.

Nousher Ali Roman, brother of Runi, filed a case at Sher-e-Bangla police station the following day.

Law enforcement officials have so far arrested eight people in connection with the double murder.

They are Tanvir, Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Mia, Abu Syed, Mintu alias Baggira Mintu alias Masum Mintu, Quamrul Hasan alias Arun, security guard Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir and Palash Rudra Pal.
