Two killed in Kushtia, Cox’ Bazar ‘gunfights’

Dhaka, Nov 25 (Just News) : A suspected robber and an alleged top drug trader were killed in separate reported gunfights in Kushtia and Cox’s Bazar districts early Sunday.

In Kushtia, suspected robber Khokon Ali alias Hatkata Thandu, 45, son of late Aijal Ali of Pukurpara area in Alampur union of the upazila, was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of robbers in Mollaeghoria canal para in sadar upazila.

Being informed about a gunfight between two groups of robbers, a team of police conducted drive in the area around 1:30am, said Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station.

Sensing the presence of police, the gang members opened fire of them and fled away he scene, he said.

Later, police rescued Khokon as bullet hit and took him to Kushtia General Hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered a foreign-made pistol and four round bullets from the spot.

He was accused in several cases including that of robbery, said the OC.

In Cox’s Bazar, Ziaur Rahman Zia, 32, son of Md Islam of Marine Drive road area in Baharchhora union, and also one of the top drug traders of Teknaf upazila, was killed in a gunfight between two groups of drug traders in early morning.

Being informed about a gunfight, when a police team reached there, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight, said Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station.

After a brief gunfight, police rescued Zia as bullet-hit condition.

Later, he was taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered three local arms and 20,000 Yaba tablets from the spot.
