2 robbers beaten dead in Gazipur

Two robbers were beaten dead by locals during a robbery in Gazipur’s Kaliganj upazila early today.

None of them could be identified when last reported, our local correspondent reports.

A group of at least 10 robbers broke into a house in Nagri union around 2:00am and was attempting a robbery into another when locals surrounded them, said the union’s Chairman Abdul Kadir.

“The villagers have been complaining of several robberies in recent times. When they caught the two, they beat them dead,” Abdul Kadir told.

Sub-Inspector Md Golam Mawla, in-charge of Ulukhola Police Outpost, confirmed the same. Several sharp weapons including machetes were recovered from the scene.

Locals said there were at least three incidents of armed robberies in the upazila in the past three weeks and that they are facing insecurity.

Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Bakar Mia told that a lawsuit is being filed over the incident. “No cases were filed over the previous robberies.”
