‘Drug peddler’ killed in “gunfight” with cops in Gulistan

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a “gunfight” with police in Dhaka’s Gulistan area early today.

Deceased Kamal, 35, was an illegal drug trader, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo quoting police.

A team of law enforcers raided Gulistan area on information that a gang was trading illegal drugs near Mohanagar Natya Mancha in the area around 2:00am, Sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station Syed Ali said.

Sensing their presence, the gang opened fire, triggering a “gunfight” when police retaliated, the SI claimed.

When the criminals fled, police found a man with bullet wounds on the spot and sent him to Dhaka medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the police official said.

Later, police identified the deceased as Kamal. The law enforcers also claimed to have recovered a locally-made firearm, yaba tablets and hemp from the scene, he told.
