DIG Mizan shown arrested in bribery case

Suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Mizanur Rahman has been shown arrested in a case filed for transaction of Tk 40 lakh as bribe.

Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of Senior Special Judge’s Court in Dhaka passed the order after Anti-Corruption Commission Director Sheikh Mohammad Fanafilya submitted a petition for showing Mizan arrested in the case.

Fanafilya, also investigation officer of the case, filed the petition with the court on July 17.

Mizan is now in jail in connection with another graft case filed over acquiring wealth illegally.

The bribery case was filed by Fanafilya against Mizan and suspended ACC director Khandaker Enamul Basir with its Dhaka district coordination office-1 under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.

The suspended DIG came under scanner after a private TV channel recently reported that Mizan gave Tk 40 lakh to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director Khandaker Enamul Basir to get a clean chit in a corruption case.

DIG Mizan was an additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). He was withdrawn on January 9 last year following the allegation of threatening a female news presenter of a private television channel.

He had also reportedly married a woman forcibly and tortured her. Mizan allegedly picked up 25-year-old woman in July 2017 and then forcibly married her.
