Two cops injured in bomb attack in Dhaka

Two cops were injured as improvised explosive devices were blasted near a police box in Science Laboratory crossing in Dhaka Saturday.

Assistant police sub-inspector Sahab Uddin, 36, sustained injuries in the legs and constable Aminul, 40, got injuries in the hands, staff at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital said.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner for Dhanmondi zone Ahsan Khan said that two of his colleagues were injured and rushed to the hospital, and anti-bomb squads rushed to the spot for investigation.

He said that the motive was not clear and they were trying to find how the attackers threw the bomb on cops near the police box.

‘Investigation is on,’ said Ahsan.

Another official from the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of the metropolitan police said that they rushed to the spot for investigation. ‘We are not sure whether the attacks were similar to previous attacks on police at Gulistan and Malibagh but it targeted the policemen,’ the official said.

At least five people, including three traffic constables, were injured in separate incidents of crude bomb explosions at Malibagh and Gulistan on May 26 and April 29 respectively.

Both the attacks were claimed by Islamic State elements through their propaganda tools.
