Hospitals admit 527 new dengue patients in 24hrs

A total of 527 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the 24 hours till Saturday (Sept 14) morning.

Of them, 156 patients were admitted in Dhaka and 371 in districts outside Dhaka.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier, the Aedes mosquito.

The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a statement that the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country was 2,996.

A total of 60 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh since Jan 1 this year, according to DGHS. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 154, so far.

As many as 1,285 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,711 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data said.

Between Jan 1 and Sept 14 this year, a total of 80,567 people have been affected by dengue.

Among those admitted, a total of 77,368 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
