Salman Shah killed himself, says PBI

Popular actor Salman Shah had taken his own life, finds Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in its investigation.

PBI chief Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Banaj Kumar Majumder disclosed their probe findings at a press briefing at its Dhanmondi headquarters on Monday morning.

“Reviewing statements of 10 witnesses made under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and analysing the opinions of all physicians and the autopsy report, it was proved that Salman Shah had not been murdered,” he said.

“While looking for the reasons behind his suicide, we found several ones. Of them, too much intimacy with film actress Shabnur, discord with his wife Samira and imperfection of married life for not having any offspring were the main ones,” the PBI chief said.

He also claimed that Salman Shah had made several futile suicide attempts in a huff before finally taking his life.

Quoting Samira, Banaj Kumar said Salman Shah wanted to marry Shabnur and lead conjugal life with both of them. “But Samira didn’t agree to this. This is where the couple's discord began. In addition, Salman Shah had attempted suicide twice in the first three years as a result of a dispute with Samira's mother-in-law. One day, he took 90 sleeping pills and swallowed Savlon another day,” he said.

Quoting Shabnur, he said she had such a relation with Salman Shah which suited with a co-artist and there was nothing beyond that.

Salman Shah, a heartthrob of the 90s, mysteriously died on September 6, 1996.

His father Kamaruddin Chowdhury had filed an unnatural death case with Ramna Police Station. He later turned it into a murder case when one Rezvi Ahmed was arrested from the house of Salman Shah's mother. Rezvi said he had killed the actor with the help of Salman Shah's wife and mother-in-law and eight other accomplices.

Rezvi, however, later disowned his confession.

Detective Branch, Criminal Investigation Department of police and a judicial probe body investigated the case separately and submitted their reports that Salman's death was a case of unnatural death, which Salman Shah’s family rejected.

The case accused 11 persons, including the actor's wife Samira Haque, producer and businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai.

The others are Salman's mother-in-law Latifa Haque Lucy, house help Monowara Begum and seven more – Rizvi Ahmed alias Farhad, choreographer Nazrul Sheikh, 'David', Ashraful Haque Don, Rabeya Sultana Rubi, Mostak Wayeed, Abul Hossain Khan.

On December 7 of 2016, a court here has asked the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to carry out further investigations into the case.

Finally, the PBI started investigation into the incident on December 20, 2016.

During investigation, statements of 44 witnesses, who were either present during the incident or related to the incident, were recorded under section 161 of the CrPC. Besides, 10 witnesses made their statements before the court under section 164 of the CrPC.

The PBI chief said the final report of the case will be submitted before the on Tuesday.
