Permission to hold Moudud’s janaza at parliament area denied: BNP

Bangladesh Nationalist Party said on Thursday that the authorities have denied permission to hold namaz e-janaza of the late party standing committee member Moudud Ahmed at the south plaza of the parliament building.

Media wing member of BNP chairperson told that Moudud’s family filed an application to the office of the Speaker seeking permission to hold his namaz e-janaza at the parliament building area.

But the permission was denied, he said.

The veteran politician and former prime minister Moudud breathed his last at a hospital in Singapore on Tuesday.

His body due to arrive home on Thursday evening when a party delegation, led by secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will receive it.

The body will be kept overnight at United Hospital mortuary, a party press release said.

BNP had taken programmes to show last respect to the party leader, also a freedom fighter and eminent lawyer.

His body will be kept at Central Shaheed Minar on Friday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am for all to show last respect to him.

The body will be taken to Supreme Court premises at 10:30 for first namaz-e-janaza and in front of BNP central office at Naya Paltan at 11:00 for his second namaz-e-janaza.

Moudud will be buried at a family graveyard at 5:30 pm after holding namaz-e-janaza at Kabirhat Degree College field at 2:30 pm and Basurhat Companigonj Government Mujib College at 4:00 pm.

BNP on Thursday observed countrywide mourning day after Moudud’s death.
