Believe in power of Allah over the life and death: Quader on Khaleda

Awami League general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday, referring to Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders’ remarks on ailing BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s treatment, said that they believe in the power of Allah over the life and death of everyone.

Speaking at the biennial general meeting and council session of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association in Dhaka as the chief guest, he responded to the BNP’s criticism and said that taking Khaleda Zia abroad was a legal issue.

However, the prime minister is considering the humanitarian aspect of the matter, he added.

Referring to BNP leaders’ comment that the government would have to shoulder the responsibility if anything happens to Khaleda Zia, Obaidul Quader said, ‘As we are believers, we believe in the power of Allah over the life and death of everyone.’

Ailing Khaleda Zia is now undergoing treatment in a hospital in Dhaka and BNP has been demanding to the government to allow her to go abroad for her treatment.

She was readmitted to Evercare Hospital on November 13, six days after she had returned home from the hospital.

On behalf of the family, Khaleda’s younger brother, Shamim Iskander, submitted an application to the home ministry on 11 November, urging the government to allow her to go abroad for better treatment.

Amid the Covid situation, the government released Khaleda from the prison cell of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on March 25, 2020, suspending her jail sentences in two graft cases, on conditions that she would take medical treatment at home and would not leave the country.

Regarding the students’ demand for half bus fare for the students, Obaidul Quader said that a rational decision would be taken by Saturday on the issue.
