People won't fall into AL’s trap again: Fakhrul on Search Committee

People of the country will no longer fall into Awami League's trap over the election, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today while criticising the search committee.

"They (government) have destroyed the democracy and the election system. They asked why we did not give names to the search committee. It's not just first (search committee). It's an extreme deception with people," he said.

Fakhrul came up with the remarks while criticising the current search committee during his speech at a programme at the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office this noon.

"Like the previous Election Commissions, they formed this EC in the same way to keep their power," said the BNP leader.

"I want to clearly say that the country's people will no longer put their foot in Awami League's trap. People will destroy all of their (AL's) plans to abolish the democracy," said the BNP leader.

"People will create a national unity to resist these horrible anti-democratic and anti-liberation forces and establish rule through holding a fair election under a neutral election-time government," added Fakhrul.

"According to a survey conducted by the international organization, Heritage Foundation, Bangladesh now ranks 137th out of 177 countries in the economic independence index. In 2021, it was 120th. That means it has gone down 17 steps," added Fakhrul.

He said BNP has no objection to the demand for an increase in salaries of government employees.

But with the increase in the salaries of those government employees, the income of common people has to be increased and that opportunity has to be created. But that is not happening, he also said.
