Commodity prices skyrocketing for govt’s failure, greed: Mirza Alamgir

Main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday alleged that the commodity prices were skyrocketing across the country due to the government’s ‘endless’ failure and greed.

He made the allegation while addressing a token hunger strike organised by the Dhaka south and north city units of BNP in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka protesting against price hike of essential commodities.

The BNP leader said that the people of the country were suffering enormously and that people would not get relief if Awami League government was not ousted.

‘This government has failed to give relief to the people. The government has failed to reduce prices of essential commodities. The fasting month of Ramadan is going to begin tomorrow. People will not get relief if this Awami League government is not ousted,’ Fakhrul said.

Fakhrul added that the current government has to be defeated by mass hunger strikes.

‘The government has to know that the country’s people don’t trust them anymore. They have to leave office immediately. They have to establish a people’s government by resigning from power and conducting the next general election under a non-partisan government,’ Fakhrul said.

Fakhrul also said that Khaleda Zia was being confined in false cases.

He also urged the government to release the detained BNP leaders and activists.

Conducted by Dhaka south city BNP member secretary AminulHuq, the programme was addressed, among others, by BNP standing committee members Khandaker Mosharrof Hossain and Nazrul Islam Khan and Dhaka city BNP leader Amanullah Aman.
