BNP leader Ishraque arrested in Dhaka

Police on Wednesday arrested BNP leader and former mayoral candidate of Dhaka South City Corporation Ishraque Hossain from Dhaka’s Motijheel area.

He was arrested around 11:30am from Shapla Square when he was distributing leaflets in protest of the rising prices of commodities, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Yasir Arafat of Motijheel police station told.

An arrest warrant was issued against Ishraque in connection with a case filed over an arson attack some two years ago, reports UNB.

The BNP leader will be produced in court later in the day, the OC added.

BNP Chairperson's Media Wing Member said Israque is currently at Motijheel police station, adding that he has been arrested in the case filed over arson attacks carried out on November 12, 2020 during bypolls to the Dhaka 18 constituency.

A live video broadcast from Ishraque’s Facebook page shows that he was distributing leaflets when police arrived.
