BNP leader Ishraque Hossain gets bail

BNP leader and former mayoral candidate in Dhaka South City Corporation election, Ishraque Hossain, was granted bail today – six days after he was sent to jail in an arson case.

Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after his lawyer appealed for his bail.

There was no legal bar for his release from jail, said his lawyer Taherul Islam Tawhid.

Ishraque was arrested on April 6 as he was distributing leaflets – protesting price hike of daily essentials in Dhaka's Motijheel area.

Police said an arrest warrant was pending against him in a case filed with Motijheel Police Station over carrying out subversive activities in Motijheel on November 12, 2020.
