Senior BNP leaders visit Quader in hospital

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has visited critically ill Awami League leader Obaidul Quader at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), where he is being treated following a cardiac arrest.

Flanked by senior leaders Moudud Ahmad and Abdul Mueen Khan, Mirza Fakhrul entered the hospital around 9.50pm.

They left 20 minutes later.

Quader, the road transport and bridges minister, was admitted to the hospital early in the morning

He has three arterial blocks and one of those has been removed by stenting, according to BSMMU Cardiology Department Prof Syed Ali Ahsan, who is leading a board overseeing his care.

As his condition was unstable, the doctors could not say when it would be safe to move him for better treatment abroad.

BSMMU cardiac surgeon Ashit Baran Adhikary said later that 67-year-old Quader was “steadily improving, but is not out of danger”.

The minister was first taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at 8.30 am and then shifted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of BSMMU.
