Records galore as Bangladesh clinch T20I series against Ireland

Bangladesh clinched the three-match Twenty20 international series 2-0 as they beat Ireland by 77 runs in the rain hit second match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday.

Liton Das initially set the tone for the Tigers hitting the fastest T20I fifty for the country before being dismissed for 83 off 41 balls as Bangladesh posted 202-3 in the 17 over game.

Then Shakib Al Hasan finished with his career best 5-22 restricting the visitors to 125-9.

Shakib also became the highest wicket-taker in the T20Is claiming 136 wickets, a record which was earlier held by New Zealand’s Tim Southee.

Sent to bat, Bangladesh opener duo Liton and Rony amassed 124, which is also the highest opening stand in T20Is for the country.

However, Rony fell to Ben White after posting the record total in 9.2 overs.

Liton followed his steps just after an over bagging his 10 T20I fifty as he gave a catch behind the stumps by White.

Then banking on Shakib’s unbeaten 38 off 24 balls helped the Tigers to manage their fourth highest total in the shortest format of the game.

Ben White was the peak of the bowlers for Ireland with 2-28.
