Challengers pick up easy win over Platoon

Chattogram Challengers recorded their sixth win in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) beating Dhaka Platoon by six wickets at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Replying to Platoon’s below-par total of 124, Lendl Simmons and Junaid Siddique added 25 runs in three overs. Simmons was removed by Platoon captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza after scoring 15 of 12 balls with two sixes to his name.

Right after Simmons’ dismissal, Junaid also went back to the dressing room for eight.

For the third wicket stand, Imrul Kayes and Chadwick Walton added 41 runs. Walton fell for 25 off 16 deliveries. But Imrul was going strong at the other end and took his side home with an unbeaten knock of 54 from 53 balls with five fours and two sixes.

Challengers chased the target of 125 in 18.4 overs losing four wickets.

Earlier, Challengers won the toss and sent Platoon to bat first. They lost three wickets in nine overs with only 50 runs on the board. Their innings did not get any momentum as they kept on losing wickets regularly before some lusty hitting from Wahab Riaz and Mashrafe down the order took their total to 124.

Platoon lost their first wicket when Anamul Haque was run-out for 14. Mehedi Hasan Rana, who hit two consecutive fifties in the last two games, fell for a two-ball duck in this match.

The onus was on Tamim Iqbal to bolster the batting but the southpaw fell for 21 off 27 with only one hit across the boundary.

Jaker Ali (3), Shahid Afridi (0), Shadab Khan (0) and Thisara Perera (6) failed to contribute with the bat.

Mominul Haque was the highest runs getter for Platoon hitting 32 off 34 with three hits across the fence.

In the ninth wicket stand, Mashrafe and Wahab Riaz added 31 runs. Mashrafe remained unbeaten for 17 off 12 balls while Wahab fell for 23 from 15 deliveries.

Muktar Ali and Ryan Burl bagged two wickets each while Nasum Ahmed and Liam Plunkett took one wicket each.
