No elections without caretaker govt: Tarique Rahman

BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has said next parliament elections in Bangladesh must be held under neutral caretaker government.

No one would be allowed to do the same thing what the ruling party did in the previous general elections by snatching the voting rights of the people, he said.

Tarique Rahman made this comment while addressing at a discussion virtually held at National Press Club in Dhaka on October 10.

Jihad Smriti Parishad arranged the programme marking the 31st anniversary of the martyrdom of Nazir Uddin Ahmed Jihad.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spoke as the key speaker with its vice-chairman Amanullah Aman in the chair.

Among others, BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, organizing secretary Fazlul Haque Milon, Assaduzzuman Ripon, Habibur Rahman Habib, and Khairul Kobir Khokon, spoke at the programme.

Tarique Rahman asked the country people to get united to forge a movement against this autocratic ruling party. “Our movement is aimed to save the people of the country and take back the country in its right way.”

He further said, “No movement can reach its destination without the unified and active participation of the student and young generation. Besides, united initiative at the national level is needed.”

Mentioning Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, BNP acting chairman said the sovereignty of the country now is under threat due to the greed for power of an individual.

The pro-democracy people not only lost their political and humanitarian rights but also their religious-social values, he added.
