Bangladesh Jatiatabadi Shewcchasebak Dal president Shafiul Bari Babu died of lung cancer on Tuesday. He was 49.
Babu breathed his last at the Evercare Hospital around 4:00am.
He was taking treatment from home for the last 15 to 16 days but was taken to Anwar Khan Modern Hospital on Monday.
Later he was shifted to Evercare about 2:00am as his condition had deteriorated, Shayrul said.
He added that Babu tested COVID-19 negative recently.
Babu left behind son, a daughter and host of well-wishers to mourn his death.
His first namaj-e-janaja will be held at 10am at the BNP office in Paltan, Dhaka.
Later his body will be taken to Ramgati of Lakshmipur district where he will be buried after Asr prayer.
