SC grants bail to Mir Nasir

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday granted ad-interim bail to BNP vice-chairman Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, who was jailed for 13 years in a case filed against him in 2007 for possessing and concealing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

A four-member judge bench chaired by chief justice Syed Mahmud Hossain granted Nasir’s bail.

The Dhaka Special Judge Court-2 on November 8 sent Nasir, also former state minister for civil aviation, to jail after rejecting his bail prayer.

Nasir surrendered to the lower court to comply with the High Court’s directive that on November 19, 2019, upheld his 13-year jail term after rejecting an appeal against the conviction.

Nasir later appealed to the Appellate Division challenging the High Court’s verdict and his appeal awaits a hearing.

Former attorney general AJ Mohammad Ali and Md Asaduzzaman appeared for Mir Nasir.
