Attacks to be resisted along with people, warns BNP

Dhaka, Dec 11 (Just News): BNP senior leader Nazrul Islam Khan on Tuesday warned that they will put up a strong resistance together with people against attacks on their candidates and activists across the country.

Speaking at a press conference after a joint meeting of BNP and the Jatiya Oikyafront leaders at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he alleged that Awami League activists attacked their party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam’s motorcade in Thakurgaon with police protection.

“We strongly condemn such attack and repression by ruling party men with the help of police. Their attitude doesn’t scare us. People put up a resistance after the attack on our secretary general’s motorcade, and they we’ll do the same across the country,” Nazrul warned.

He said several thousand people took to the streets in Thakurgaon’s Danarhat area in protest against the attack on Fakhrul’s motorcade.

Nazrul alleged that the ruling party activists foiled their candidate Moudud Ahmed’s rally in Noakhali’s Kabirhat and injured their 30 activists.

He said the ruling party followers also attacked the houses of at least 25 BNP activists there, but police arrested district unit BNP leader Ekram Uddin.

Nazrul also condemned the attack on the motorcade of their party’s Bogura-5 candidate GM Siraj by a ‘group; of ruling party men.

He called upon journalists to properly run news on the attacks on their party leaders and activists.

Nazrul urged the Election Commission to look into the incidents and take steps to stop the continued arrest their leaders and activists.
